New Study Shows NBCC Fueling The Province's Economy - 91.9 The Bend

A report on the New Brunswick Community College indicates that the institution is an economic driver for the province.

Conducted by Stiletto Consulting, the NBCC Economic Impact Report helps put dollars and cents around the impact graduates have on the province.

In 2019-2020, about 53,000 NBCC Graduates were working across the province, contributing about 7.2 billion dollars to economic activity.

The study looked at graduates, operations and how they support New Brunswick.

Heather Allaby is the Executive Director, Strategic and Integrated Engagement at the New Brunswick Community College. She believes the Impact Report exhibits that NBCC is beneficial for all parties involved.

For NBCC graduates, it takes about seven years to recover the investment of a two-year program.

“They have an improved earning potential.”

“Even our graduates that had just entered the workforce not long before the pandemic hit still stayed very strongly employed,” Allaby adds that most students find work in the industry they studied.

Another beneficiary is the Government of New Brunswick, which contributes around $56 million a year in grants. According to the study, in 2019-2020 about $21 million was generated by NBCC operations in taxes, in addition to the $56.9 million in taxes induced by NBCC graduates.

Allaby credits the success of NBCC to their relationships as well as the programs they offer,

“We work very closely with industries, employers and communities understanding what their needs are. Our programs are looking at what does New Brunswick need.”
